Orthodontics for Children
As recommended by the Canadian and American Association of Orthodontists, Dr Trites prefers to see children by the age of 7 in order to advise if treatment is required and the best time for that patient to begin orthodontic treatment. The first permanent molars and incisors have usually come in by that time and crossbites, crowding and other problems can be evaluated.
When an orthodontic consultation is done early, Dr Trites can assess the growth of the jaw and guide incoming permanent teeth. Early treatment, can regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, gain space for permanent teeth, avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions, and reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth. Early assessment can also correct thumb-sucking, and eliminate abnormal swallowing or speech problems. In other words, early treatment may simplify or prevent later treatment; not to mention the important benefit of increased self-esteem and an attractive smile.
Orthodontics for Adults
It is never to late for orthodontic treatment. Orthodontics can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile for life! One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over the age of 21 and treatment plans are designed on an individual patient to patient bases.
Having your teeth straightened is both beneficial for improved cleaning of your teeth and can result in a decreased chance of tooth and gum (periodontal) tissue breakdown; not to mention the important benefit of having improved self-esteem from a great smile. Ask the Trites Orthodontics team how we can help improve your smile!
